Cloud PBX vs traditional office PABX.

Choose the operating model that fits your people, existing equipment and connectivity—not just the lowest advertised subscription.

How the deployment model changes

A traditional on-premises PABX puts the phone-system equipment at your location. A cloud PBX puts the phone-system application in the provider’s environment, while staff connect through supported endpoints and network connections. Moving the application does not remove your need for suitable connectivity, carrier service or compatible equipment.

For a dispersed team, a supported mobile, desktop or web client can make the same extension available away from the desk. The LinkusPBX source lists these client options; compatibility and administration requirements should be tested during scoping.

Compare the complete operating cost

A hardware-based system may involve equipment, licences, maintenance and installation. A cloud quotation may involve software subscription, carrier charges, external calls, implementation and devices. Neither model guarantees that every existing device can be reused or that the first-year bill will be lower.

Compare the same requirements over the same period, including existing contract exit costs. Read the complete-cost checklist and compare published LinkusPBX prices.

Where a migration needs extra attention

  • Analog devices, gateways and any equipment sharing the existing telephone service.
  • Incoming/outgoing call routes, transfers, queues and caller identification.
  • Administrator responsibilities, user training and device provisioning.
  • Business-number eligibility and carrier-dependent migration timing.
  • Fallback arrangements for internet, power or carrier disruption.

Decide from a tested requirement

Start with staff count and peak conversations, then assess locations and devices. A workshop using shared desk phones can need a different design from a hybrid office using headsets. Compare both options against a documented acceptance checklist before approving the move.

When keeping a PABX may still make sense

  • It was recently bought, is still supported, and meets your needs.
  • Your site has very limited internet connectivity.
  • You depend on special analog equipment that would be costly to replace.

We will say so if staying put is the better option for now.

Signs it is time to move

  • The maintenance contract is ending or spare parts are hard to find.
  • Staff work from home or on the road and miss calls.
  • You are moving office or opening a branch.
  • You want call reports, recording or CRM integration without extra hardware.

Five questions to decide

  1. How many staff need an extension, and how many calls happen at once?
  2. Which existing phones and analog devices must keep working?
  3. Is the office internet reliable enough for voice, with a backup option?
  4. What will the current system cost to maintain over the next three years?
  5. Which numbers must be kept, and are they eligible to port?

LinkusPBX plans start at SGD 39 per month for CP10 on an annual commitment. Telco services, setup and porting are quoted case by case. See prices and packages.

Hybrid approaches

Moving does not have to happen all at once. Some businesses start with remote staff on the Linkus apps, move the main office later, and keep a few analog devices on a gateway. A phased plan can reduce risk, as long as routing and numbers are clearly documented at each stage.

Frequently asked questions

Is a cloud PBX always cheaper than a PABX?

Not always. Compare the same requirements over the same period, including telco services, devices, setup and maintenance.

Can I reuse my existing desk phones?

Many SIP phones can be reused after a compatibility check. Older digital or analog handsets may need replacing or a gateway.

What happens if the office internet goes down?

With a cloud PBX, calls can be redirected to staff on the mobile app or to another number, depending on how routing is set up.
