IT infrastructure planning for Singapore businesses.

Scope the network and equipment around your users, applications and operational requirements.

Assess the current environment

Review office locations, internet services, routers, firewalls, switching, wireless coverage and the devices that use them. Identify the business services that depend on the network and the areas where performance or administration is difficult.

Infrastructure scoping and procurement need actual requirements. Equipment selection, quantities, compatibility and prices are confirmed in the accepted quotation.

Design the rollout and acceptance tests

  • Current and expected users, endpoints and locations.
  • Wireless and wired coverage for the actual work areas.
  • Dependencies involving applications, cloud services and telephone calling.
  • Administrator access, responsibilities and configuration handover.
  • Installation sequence, disruption window, tests and fallback arrangements.

Plan voice connectivity alongside the network

If cloud calling is in scope, test supported phones, clients and headsets in the intended locations. Check call behaviour during busy office traffic, and agree the approved firewall and remote-access configuration.

Use the cloud PBX network checklist. A provider platform uptime commitment does not automatically cover local power, internet or office equipment.

Procure against the agreed design

Confirm supported models, licence requirements, warranty/support responsibility and implementation work before buying equipment. A hardware quote should connect each item to the intended requirement rather than simply replace every current device.

Share your office layout, device count, current connectivity and project objective to start a discussion.

Office network checklist

  • Internet: service type, speed in both directions, contract end date, and whether a backup line or mobile failover is needed.
  • Router and firewall: supported model, firmware up to date, admin password changed from default, SIP ALG disabled if you use VoIP.
  • Switches: enough ports, PoE where desk phones or access points need power, and a labelled patch panel.
  • Wi-Fi: coverage in meeting rooms, pantry and storerooms, separate guest network, and no consumer extenders hidden in ceilings.
  • Power: a small UPS for the router and core switch so short outages do not drop everything.
  • Documentation: a simple diagram, admin account list and supplier contacts kept somewhere safe.

Office move: a timeline that works

  1. 8–12 weeks before: confirm the internet order for the new address; installation lead times vary.
  2. 6–8 weeks: agree the floor plan, data points and Wi-Fi locations with the fit-out contractor.
  3. 4 weeks: order equipment against the agreed design.
  4. 2 weeks: pre-configure switches, access points and phones.
  5. Move week: install, test each desk and room, and move phone numbers if needed.

Lead times depend on the building and telco; we confirm them during scoping.

Example scope: a 20-person office

One business internet line with a mobile backup, a firewall, one PoE switch, three ceiling access points, a small UPS, and desk phones for reception and managers, with everyone else on the Linkus apps. The quotation lists each item against the requirement it meets.

Voice on the network

Voice is sensitive to jitter and packet loss. Prioritise voice traffic where your equipment supports QoS, keep phones on a dependable wired or Wi-Fi connection, and test calls at busy times. See the network readiness checklist and IP phones and headsets.

Security basics

  • Change default passwords and turn off unused remote access.
  • Keep firmware updated on routers, switches and access points.
  • Separate guest Wi-Fi from staff devices.
  • Record who holds admin access, and review it when staff leave.

Questions to ask about any hardware quotation

  • Which requirement does each item meet?
  • Is the model supported by the systems it must work with, such as your phone system or firewall?
  • Who handles warranty claims and firmware updates?
  • What installation, configuration and testing work is included?
  • Can any existing equipment be reused safely?

A good quotation answers these clearly, so you only buy what the design needs.

Frequently asked questions

Do you supply hardware?

We can supply equipment against an agreed design. Models, quantities and prices are confirmed in the quotation.

Can you work with our building fit-out contractor?

Yes. We can provide data point and Wi-Fi locations so cabling is done right the first time.

Will a cloud phone system work on our current network?

Often yes, after checking the router, Wi-Fi and internet capacity. Our network readiness checklist covers the main points.

Find a phone-system plan

Three short questions. No contact details needed to see a recommendation.

External telco capacity is sized separately. We confirm exact capacity usage during scoping.
