Prepare your network before moving business calling to the cloud.

A cloud PBX depends on the connection between your staff, supported clients and the service. Test the actual environment before cutover.

Map the connections that carry calls

Identify the office internet service, switches, wireless coverage, routers and firewalls, plus remote users and branch locations. Include busy-period traffic and the devices that need power. A supported application does not guarantee that every home network or wireless location will perform equally.

Test the intended call experience

  • Incoming and outgoing calls on the supported devices people will actually use.
  • Two-way audio, transfers, queues, voicemail and caller identification.
  • Call behaviour during busy office traffic and at relevant wireless locations.
  • Remote access and the firewall requirements for the approved deployment.
  • Headset, microphone and desk-phone compatibility.

Latency, jitter and packet loss should be assessed with the selected platform and connection requirements. Avoid applying an unverified bandwidth figure to every office; a test and the agreed design are more useful.

Agree continuity and security responsibilities

Discuss how callers reach you if office internet, local power or a carrier route is unavailable. A provider uptime target does not cover every device and connection in your office. Agree which fallback options are available and test them where included.

Confirm administrator access, supported firmware, account protection and the approved network configuration. Published TLS/SRTP, firewall or SBC capabilities still depend on configuration and compatible endpoints.

Coordinate infrastructure and telephony

Network changes can affect the telephone rollout, while a telephone migration can reveal older devices or routes that need special treatment. Record responsibilities, acceptance tests and the sequence of work before the number moves.

A practical readiness check before a phone-system change

Run the assessment where people will actually work. A speed test at reception cannot establish call quality for a wireless headset in a meeting room, a home connection or another floor. Map the devices, network path and business hours that matter before choosing a deployment.

1. Inventory the calling environment

Record wired and wireless phones, computers, headsets, switches and routers. Note who manages each component and whether access is available for a planned change. Include remote staff and any equipment that will remain on the existing telephone service.

2. Test representative conditions

Ask your implementation team to test calls during a normal busy period, including concurrent business traffic. Listen for broken audio, delay and one-way sound. Test inbound and outbound calls, transfers and the actual supported apps. Keep a record of the location, device and time when a problem occurs.

3. Agree what happens during an interruption

Internet, power, devices and carrier services have different failure modes. Agree an alternative answering arrangement and who activates it. A backup connection only helps if the routing and devices have been tested with that connection. Do not promise uninterrupted calling from a connectivity specification alone.

4. Use acceptance checks that staff understand

The rollout checklist should say which users test which routes, who records the outcome and who approves the cutover. Give staff the support contact and a short description of what information to include in an incident report. Keep passwords and recordings out of public forms.

For LinkusPBX, confirm the supplier’s deployment requirements. Product-specific settings should come from the relevant vendor documentation and the agreed implementation scope.
